About this walk

This moderate 21.6 km (13.4 miles) loop from Northleach is a proper walk, taking you through some lovely Cotswold woodland. You’ll be mostly on tree-covered tracks and shaded paths, making it a good choice for a warm day when you want a break from direct sun. With 268 metres of total ascent spread out over the route, it’s a steady climb rather than anything too strenuous, meaning you can keep a good pace. Expect to be out for around 5h 41m, allowing for a few stops to take it all in.

Around halfway, you'll reach the Route Midpoint, a viewpoint offering a decent perspective over the surrounding countryside. It's not a place to grab a sandwich, but it's a good spot to pause, take a swig of water, and enjoy the quiet before you carry on. The approach to this point is mostly through mature trees, so keep an eye out for the play of light and shadow on the path as you make your way towards the open views.

The second half of the walk continues the woodland theme, leading you back towards Northleach along more sheltered tracks. After a spell of rain, some sections can get a bit muddy, so decent waterproof boots are a sensible choice. While the Route Midpoint is the main panoramic stop, there are plenty of smaller moments of beauty to appreciate in the woods. All in all, this is a solid day out for anyone who enjoys a long walk amongst the trees.
